2018 has been a record-breaking year for famed DJ/Producer and EDM heavyweight Artem ‘Arty’ Stoliarov a.k.a. ARTY. After starting 2018 with his single “Sunrise” going to #2 on US dance radio, ARTY continues to shock the dance world with over 17 new releases in just seven months between his ARTY and progressive trance-focused ALPHA 9 projects, including incredibly successful remixes for Skrillex, Above and Beyond, Axwell /\ Ingrosso, and Armin Van Buuren — making him #1 in 2018 for most releases by any EDM artist.
ADE 2018 could not be that awesome without ARTY, and we’ve been lucky enough to catch up with him about his projects:
TBA: Congrats on your new single ‘Perfect Strangers’ what was the idea behind it?
A: For 2018, I wanted to get back to my roots and think about what my fans wanted to hear. To do that I had to think about what dance culture means to me in the first place. Perfect Strangers started as a powerful production I was using to start my DJ sets as a mashup with Up All Night. I wanted to have a deeper message to help vocalize my feelings for what this record is about, so I wrote the top line for it. To me, the dance community is all about people coming together as perfect strangers and sharing in our love for the music.
TBA: What are your plans in the near future in terms of touring and production?
A: I’m taking a break from touring at the end of this year to work in the studio and finish up all the songs I been working on because there’s been a lot of songs for both ARTY and ALPHA 9. I want to fully get ready for 2019 because I’m going to be playing a tour when I debut my next big single.
TBA: What about your alter ego ALPHA 9? Anything new coming up already?
A: I have a ton of ideas in the works, including some unexpected and experimental records. I’m taking the project more cinematic, and working with the deeper sounds. So far ALPHA 9 has stayed mostly instrumental, serving as my introduction to the project. For 2019, I’m working on more vocal songs.
TBA: Who was and is your biggest inspiration?
A: My biggest inspiration has always been Axwell, Eric Prydz, and Deadmau5. This year, straying from dance music a little, I’ve been listening to a lot of EDEN and London Grammar.
TBA: You have always been supported by the biggest names in the scene, is there someone you would like to collaborate with?
A: For ALPHA 9, I’d love to get back in the studio with Armin Van Buuren and Above & Beyond. I also want to collab with London Grammar because it would be cinematic and beautiful. For ARTY, I’d love to someday do something with Alesso where we could experiment together on a fresh take of progressive house music.
TBA: If you had the power to change something in the scene, what would you change?
A: I would change the fact that most of the musicians shouldn’t be scared of trying out new things. You don’t necessarily need to follow the trends that you see…you can look within yourself and be more open to following your heart.
TBA: You are living in L.A. now, right? How would you describe the music scene there?
A: It’s incredible. I think LA has the greatest amount of creative people in the city than any city in the world. Every person ends up living in LA because it’s a city of opportunities and has its own creative vibe. Just the fact that you can choose to either be completely locked down in the studio alone, or to do writing sessions, everything is more accessible.
TBA: Can you tell us a bit about the production process when you make a new tune?
A: Everything starts with the melody. Either I’m taking a shower, or making breakfast, or just thinking about different things. It’s a pretty random process how I come up with the melodies, but it always comes from the head first. If I sit just vibing on a midi keyboard it’s almost never happening.
ARTY has built an international following mixing his trademark big-room anthems with downtempo electronica year over year, showcasing his gift for translating club-focused sounds to the pop/radio format. With nods to classic trance, Arty continues to produce under the moniker ALPHA 9, and is currently wrapping up a United States tour with special performances internationally.
With an XS Encore Las Vegas residency under his belt, and a pedigree of performances at Ultra, Electric Daisy Carnival, Tomorrowland, Ushuaïa, Amnesia Ibiza, and Creamfields, Arty has established himself as one of the music industry’s most consistent artists, a prodigious talent, and has become a go-to for others artists, crafting immensely popular remixes for Skrillex, Axwell /\ Ingrosso, Armin Van Buuren, Halsey, OneRepublic, London Grammar, Above & Beyond, Porter Robinson, and Years & Years.
As a leading influence in the music scene and top 25 DJ, Arty has several new works of original music and collaborations set for release later this year. Last summer he toured in Asia, and played sold out shows in Ibiza with Martin Garrix and Armin van Buuren. This summer he toured Japan, Russia, and played major festivals including EDC, Tomorrowland, and Dreamstate.
It’s been a long thirteen years since Armin van Buuren dropped ‘Shivers’ as part of his sophomore album of the same name. Having become a much loved favorite across the globe, the song has proven seminal in the evolution of trance music throughout the years. Today, fellow electronic music star ALPHA 9 comes knocking with a breathtaking remix.
One word: goosebumps. Now revisited by none other than ALPHA 9, Armin van Buuren and Susana’s ‘Shivers’ has remained a seminal single and globally beloved classic since its initial release in 2005 and now re-emerges for at least an additional thirteen years of wonder through by the gentle sound mash ALPHA 9 calls his own. For certain, this will remain a staple for decades to come.
“The original version of ‘Shivers’ by Armin is one of my all-time favorite songs: it’s the reason why I started to listen to trance music back in 2005” confirms ALPHA 9 aka Artem Stoliarov (Arty), adding “It’s really hard to express how much this song means to me.” Grateful for being tasked with an opportunity he describes as “incredible,” this ALPHA 9 remix doesn’t disappoint; the product is a glorious new re-emergence of a trance classic that will remain a staple for time to come and guarantee at least another thirteen years worth of goosebumps.
The anticipation and importance of preserving the source material isn’t lost on the producer Stoliarov, who has also collaborated with van Buuren on the track ‘Nehalennia’ in addition to remixing ‘Embrace.’ Stoliarov said “I usually prefer not to touch my favorite songs, but with ‘Shivers’ it felt different. I really wanted to play this song in my live ALPHA 9 sets, but so it fitted my current sound and style. I had a pretty strong idea where I wanted to take this remix even before I got my hands on the original.”
“The reaction has been incredible. It warms my heart when I see how many people still remember and love this song, and I can’t wait to share my remix with both my fans and the fans of the original masterpiece.”
One of electronic music’s most active and consistent acts ARTY, a part of the dual-persona music engine manned by Stoliarov, has churned out a range of smash hit remixes for the likes of Halsey (‘Hurricane’ – over 53 million streams), OneRepublic, London Grammar, Above & Beyond, Porter Robinson, and Years & Years. Now residing in Los Angeles, he performs at the world’s biggest clubs and festivals (Ultra, Electric Daisy Carnival, Tomorrowland, Ushuaïa, Amnesia Ibiza, Creamfields), clocks up millions of streams on Spotify, and continues to craft astonishing singles under his ALPHA 9 alias. His discography is teeming with crowd favorites, and this remix of ‘Shivers’ marks the next stellar addition to the list.
After giving rise to crowd favorites such as ‘Sunrise’ and ‘Rain’, Russian dance music star ARTY has upped the ante with another brilliant, summer-tinged production. Complete with warm vocals and infectious melodies, ‘Couldn’t Be Better’ arrives just in time to spruce up this summer’s beach parties.
Telling a story of heartbreak conquered and time-healed wounds, ARTY’s ‘Couldn’t Be Better’ “was inspired by everyone who’s been through a tough relationship, struggling to overcome it, but finally finding happiness either on their own or with a new person in their life”. A mash of strong lyrics, addictive vocals and super-danceable rhythms, this song will lift you up both on and off the dancefloor.
ARTY: “I think this is the most summer-ish song I’ve ever made and the sounds complement this feeling. It’s a bit different from the music I’ve released earlier this year, and the reason is because the shape of the song helps to translate the message in the best possible way. And even though the lyrics are a bit melancholy, it’s still a positive song that will make people feel good.”
Born Artem Stoliarov (or Arty for short), ARTY is without doubt one of electronic music’s most consistent acts. After breaking into the scene in 2009 at the age of 19, he quickly began to turn heads across the dance music realm, releasing his music on a range of top-tier labels while churning out remixes for the likes of Halsey (‘Hurricane’ – over 47 million streams), OneRepublic, London Grammar, Above & Beyond, Porter Robinson and Years & Years. Now residing in Los Angeles, ARTY performs at the biggest festivals and clubs in the world (e.g. Ultra, Electric Daisy Carnival, Tomorrowland, Ushuaïa, Amnesia Ibiza, Creamfields), clocks up millions of streams on Spotify and keeps his Trance roots alive by churning out top-drawer singles under his globally acclaimed ALPHA 9 moniker. His discography is teeming with top tunes and its next addition ‘Couldn’t Be Better’.
Hot on the heels of dropping masterstroke single ‘Sunrise’ (feat. April Bender) to add considerable weight to his Armada Music comeback, Russian star ARTY immediately hits again with another shot of his trademark sound for the Amsterdam-based record label’s 15-year anniversary celebrations. Bearing the 15th anniversary stamp, ‘Rain’ emerges as both a solid offering and a telling precursor for the trove of phenomenal cuts ARTY intends to unleash throughout this year and the next.
Mesmeric and beautiful like a gentle drizzle on a warm spring day, ‘Rain’ offers a downpour of emotion no dance music fan can resist. Embellished by tiny synth drops and cascading melodies, this cut invigorates parties and nightlife scenes all over the world and will prove a fan favorite in no time.
ARTY: “Rain is my favorite weather by far, and I’ve always wanted to express my love for rain in a song. With ‘Rain’, I set out to describe the feeling of sadness and melancholy as well as the uplifting emotions that rain always brings me. It has less vocals and a bigger club vibe compared to its predecessor ‘Sunrise’, so people can enjoy the instruments surrounding the upbeat production.”

ARTY is rightfully considered one of dance music’s hottest acts and ‘Rain’ shows exactly why.
It’s been quite a while since ARTY last indulged Armada Music with his trailblazing signature sound, but the long-time industry icon and Armada alum is most definitely returning to the label. Almost five years after collaborating with Armin van Buuren on ‘Nehalennia’, ARTY kicks off 2018 with ‘Sunrise’ (feat. April Bender), the first new single of many more to come this year.
Uplifting like the first rays of the morning sun, ‘Sunrise’ is all any dance music fan could ask for. Sporting wonderful chords and an eruptive melody alongside contemplative lyrics and April Bender’s gorgeous vocals, this cut shows that ARTY has been able to step up his game even further and will keep clubbers going till the break of dawn.
ARTY: “It’s important for me to continue making the music I enjoy the most and ‘Sunrise’ definitely falls into that category. It’s both a milestone and an incredibly important track in my career as I get back to my Progressive House roots and I’m extremely excited to officially share it with my fans after successfully sneaking it into my live sets for the past few months.”
