The Ultimate Collection Of Hits From The Standout Pop Dance Act Of The 90’s Including ‘Ride On Time’ And ‘Everybody Everybody’

‘SUPERBEST’ IS OUT NOW

LISTEN HERE

In 1989, BLACKBOX released “Ride On Time” using an unauthorised sample from Loleatta Holloway’sdisco hit ‘Love Sensation’. Holloway took legal action and the original version was removed from distribution.

29 Years later, Black Box finally secured the rights to the original sample and it is to be released in their ‘Superbest’ album.

Black Box originally hailing from Italy brought the Italo-House piano sound into the mainstream. Unquestionably delivering one of the finest examples of 90’s pop music in history and in the process becoming one of the most important and influential pop dance bands in the UK at the time. Monopolising the airwaves during the late 80’s and early ‘90’s, alongside acts like Ace of Base, Dee-Lite, Culture Beat, C & C Music Factory, M People, Technotronic, all of whom were contemporaries and populated the musical landscape.

But the biggest story was ‘Ride On Time’. A record that marked a special moment in pop history and remains culturally relevant to this day, with a modest 9.5 million streams on Spotify and still featured on prime-time TV adverts. The song reached #1 in the UK and Ireland in 1989, staying there for 6 Weeks cementing their place as the best-selling song throughout the whole of 1989. Elsewhere in the world, it peaked at #2 Sweden and Australia and sat in the top 10 throughout the rest of Europe becoming one of the best-selling 90’s pop dance tracks to this day.

‘Ride On Time’ originally sampled Loleatta Holloway’s 1980 disco hit ‘Love Sensation’, it was then re-sung by an anonymous well known pop singer and famously lip-synced by French model Katrin Quinol.

Now that the 90’s are very much in fashion with boy and girl band reunion’s along with Vogue recently publishing a feature about clothes and bands from the era.

Of course, it was not just all about ‘Ride on Time’, Black Box’s other hits ‘Everybody Everybody’, ‘Strike it up’ and ‘Fantasy’ all gained great traction at the time. Their first album ‘Dreamland’ broke into the US charts and gained Gold certification in the US & UK, second album ‘Positive Vibrations’ also followed in its success.

Now Black Box return with ‘Superbest’, an album featuring the hits that we know and love plus special remixes released for the first time in addition to a new and previously unreleased Black Box track ‘Everyone Will Follow’ and alongside a special version of ‘Ride On Time’ with the very original Loleatta Holloway vocal, recently cleared for re-release.

In addition to all this, Black Box are currently touring with international shows and festivals dates lined up across Europe in the Netherlands, Tenerife, Ibiza and the UK.

FRANCESCA LOMBARDO ANNOUNCES SINGLE “EYE RING” AN ENCHANTING VOCAL PERFORMANCE

THE FIRST SINGLE TAKEN FROM THE FORTHCOMING DEBUT ALBUM “LIFE OF LEAF”

‘EYE RING’ SINGLE RELEASE DATE: 18th MAY
LABEL: COOLTEMPO

WATCH THE ANNOUNCEMENT VIDEO FOR ‘EYE RING’ HERE

As an artist that has unquestionably cultivated uniqueness in both her production and live performances, Francesca Lombardo explores the richness of her diverse musical background through “Eye Ring”, the first single taken from her forthcoming debut album – “Life Of Leaf”; an LP of elegant instrumentation and engaging composition.

Italian-born and classically trained, Lombardo’s journey as a touring DJ and Producer has taken her global. Playing prodigious shows ranging from Burning Man, Tomorrowland, Get Lost and Circoloco.

A declaration of identity, Eye Ring” could be Lombardo’s most touching track to date in which her vocals take centre stage, each word delivered carefully with unwavering patience.

Through its harmonious pianos and delicate string details, “Eye Ring” conveys both formidable passion and a dreamy wistfulness that hints at a true relationship album – interchangeable in style yet rooted in the heartbeat of personality and life experiences.

Lombardo’s voice skims and hollows, comforts and cries; guiding the tracks effortless groove like a soft flashlight. Demonstrating a vocal narration that is as confident in delivery as it is innocent, Lombardo whispers and invites in a way that is complimentary to the track’s sparse, warm and radiating atmosphere.

If “Eye Ring” is a statement of intent, then we can expect Lombardo’s “Life Of Leaf” LP to be a true interrogation of the self, pushing the boundaries of creativity through orchestrated instrumentation whilst playing on the narratives of memories that we can all relate to.

“Eye Ring” will be released on May 18th via Cooltempo.

PAUL VAN DYK & JAMES COTTLE – VORTEX (JARDIN REMIX)

How much further into Paul van Dyk & James Cottle’s ‘Vortex’ can it honestly be safe to go?! Well Jardin either knows… or doesn’t really care! (We’re banking on the former – he’s a considerate soul!).

When VANDIT offered him the pick of ‘From Then On’s crop to work some remix magic up on, the Scot made a no-hesitation beeline for Paul & James’ combined debut. Has he taken it beyond the Original’s already seismic proportions? Well let’s just say, around these parts, no one’s betting against it.

Putting the ‘kick’ in kick-drum, Jardin lays down a purposeful tempo, bracing bass and innate arrangement to charge his interpretation. Sending out dance-commanding impulses both conscious and subliminal, its catchy as hell call-and-response sub-melody energizes the production further.

Come the midpoint he reins in the riff for an eye-of-the-storm moment of relative calm. Its respite is fleeting however as Jardin releases the snare triggers, opens up the compressors and drops in its sky-kissing mainline to send ‘Vortex’ into orbit.

Jardin’s mix of ‘Vortex’ whirls into view today – turbulence very much ahead.
